There are so many kayaks out there on the market, and often it is difficult to decide on the right kayak for you. At Go Kayaking North West, we appreciate that you often need to sit in and try as many boats as possible before you are ready to commit to 1 kayak. As we as having substantial stock, we also have access to the Pyranha Demo fleet of kayaks so you can narrow down your choices.
Pyranha kayaks are made in the UK, Cheshire in fact and they have been innovators in kayaks since 1971. Pyranha kayaks were the first to rotomould plastic kayaks, where the first to introduce adjustable thigh grips & full plate footrests as well as continuing to develop an industry standard for design & construction. The Pyranha 9R came first and second in the 2015 World Extreme Kayaking Race and also won many other events in 2015, as well as being a trusted and respected brand throughout the UK, Europe and America. It is no wonder you see 15 year old Pyranha kayak still on the river looking sharp, and you see more timeless Pyranha boats still looking sharp on the river than any other brand.
Pyranha cover the whole range of Kayaks from low volume big volume creek boats, to old school low volume river play boats and it is within this range that we stock and can offer a try before you buy service. If you are unsure whether you prefer a planning hull or a displacement hull, primary or secondary stability, low volume stern or high volume, we can help you make that decision by getting you out on the water.
Customer have access to our on site canal, which can be used for free. So come on down and try as many boats as you want on our canal. Once narrowed down the choices, feel free to take the kayak off site to your local river to make sure you are happy with the kayak in the environment you will use it in. If you want to take a boat off site we ask for £25 and you can take it for 3 days. The £25 is re-deemable should you buy a boat. So you would get £25 off the final price of the kayak.
Once you have decided on your preferred kayak, we will help you in the shop getting the kayak fitted to your shape and paddling style. This involves adjusting the seat, thigh brace, hip pads & foot block & using our expert advice & knowledge so you are happy and comfortable in your kayak. This is a free service, and is aimed to help get paddlers connected to their boats which will increase comfort & performance and therefore increase enjoyment.
You can also book on one of our river running courses ran with Chris Brain which will help you gain some skills, tips & techniques to improve your personal paddling, group dynamics & leadership skills as well as the essential safety and rescue skills required for you to continue in your own adventures.
If you ever need any extra parts for your kayak, then we are more than happy to supply these or even service your kayak if it has been neglected or parts lost.
After all this, you will be confident you bought the right boat which you will be comfortable in and connected to and you also have the chance to pick up some paddling coaching too so you can start your own adventures safely & we’ll set you right with a further service in the future. All part of the GKNW service.

If you’re reading this guide the chances are you want to know what the differences are between Pyranha’s Connect River and Connect River+ outfitting and whether it’s worth investing in the Connect River+ option.
The 2015/2016 RRP for a Pyranha Connect River Kayaks is £649.00 and Connect River + is £719.00, that's a difference of £70.00!
The differences between the two specs involve the interior outfitting (i.e. thigh braces and seating) the shell of the kayak is still exactly the same!
You can buy all the components to upgrade your boat to the Connect River+ at a later stage but you will end up paying more than if you bought the upgraded boat to start with!
Links for all components are included in this guide.
What are the differences?
Pyranha Hip Pads
The Pyranha Connect River outfitting does not come with hip pads as standard whereas the Connect River+ does!
Hip pads are used to give better connectivity and control by giving a more snug and secure fit at the hips. They are very useful for edge control and the extra connectivity helps with your hip flick when rolling.
The Hip Pads normally retail for £35.00 and can be found here – Pyranha Hip Pads.
The Pyranha Connect River and Connect River + Specs come with the same thigh braces. However, the Connect River + does come with the Pyranha Ratchet Buckles already installed
The ratchet buckles can be used in Connection with the Connect Back Rest Strap, which forms a fully adjustable backrest system.
Ratchet Buckles can be bought for £20.00 by following this link – Pyranha Ratchet Buckles
The Pyranha Connect River comes with the Pyranha Club back band, which only offers very minor adjustment and is fixed to the side of the seat.
The Connect River+ comes with a fully adjustable back band, which you can use in conjunction with the Pyranha ratchet buckles to create a more snug fit for better connectivity to your boat and gives increased support your lower back.
As you can see from the image the back band is attached and adjusted at the thigh braces making adjustments in easy reach whilst seated in the boat.
Is it worth it?
Well the combined cost if you buy these accessories separately is £90.00!
So you are instantly saving yourself £20.00, whilst drastically improving the performance and enjoyment of your Pyranha kayak.
Don’t get left behind in the eddy, upgrade your boat today!
