Runcorn, Cheshire

This is an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking retail professional to join an established and expanding company with in the Canoe and Kayak retail sector.

Go Kayaking (GoK) is the umbrella organisation for the Go Kayaking North West and Go Kayaking Scotland retail stores as well as the recently launched online presence.

The new Shop Manager will be based at Go Kayaking North Wests premises alongside the Bridgewater Canal and just outside of Runcorn, Cheshire. New investment in premises and online retail alongside a unique waterside location and industry partnerships will give great opportunity for expansion of business over the coming years.

Working alongside GoK Scotland and GoK .com Managers, you will be responsible for aligning GoK North West with the group strategy as well as managing all aspects of the North West retail operation.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the annual, monthly and daily retail business and reporting performance to the line manager. Including end of day cash management, banking, stock selection and control and purchasing.
  • Staff management to include full time and part time members of staff dependent on the season.
  • Training of staff to ensure a consultative sales approach and high levels of product knowledge and service.
  • Business marketing to include web, social media, events and demonstrations.
  • Epos and Ecommerce population and implementation driving online sales.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety and HR regulations and training while also being the fire officer for the site.
  • Overall responsibility for site including HS, security, stock, storage, utilities, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and presentability of the site.
  • Management of an on-site canal mooring operation and being the main point of contact for mooring enquires. 
  • Develop and drive forward an effective strategy to increase direct retail sales
  • Develop contract business
  • Deliveries and collections using the company vehicle. 
  • initiating changes to improve the business, e.g. revising opening hours to ensure the store can compete effectively in the local market;
  • Maintaining awareness of market trends in the retail industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing
  • Analysing sales figures and forecasting future sales

  • People management skills
  • Canoe and Kayak Product knowledge
  • Product ranging and purchasing  skills
  • Canoe and Kayak coaching qualifications
  • Full Clean Driving licence
  • Conditions
  • Hours of work - full time - 5 days a week to include weekends depending on staff rota
  • Salary – Depending on experience.
  • Holiday – 28 days per annum including public and bank holidays as per company handbook.
  • A six month trial period will apply to this position.
