This is the latest kayak to emerge from the Venture boatshed. It has been designed around the needs of entry-level paddlers.

Unlike many entry–level boats, the Jura draws on features from top end designs. This gives the Venture Jura MV a comfortable yet sporty and adventurous feel on the water.

Cockpit outfitting

The spacious cockpit has the ‘Connect’ outfitting from the P&H Delphin and Aries. The footrests and backrest can easily be adjusted whilst on the water. This means that a loose fit can be adopted for those long lazy days out. As the paddler’s skills develop, it is easy to draw back the footrests and tighten the backrest for a more positive ‘body to boat’ connection, in preparation for more challenging seas.

Performance on the water

The moderate rocker and semi flat mid-section in the hull mean that there is enough initial stability for the beginner paddler to feel confident, with plenty of scope to develop more advanced skills.

On flat water, edging is easy and feels secure because this is where the excellent secondary stability really kicks in. Once on its edge, turns are easy making this boat perfectly at home in confines of coastal rock gardens.

On moderate water the high volume bow rises gently to each wave giving a dry ride. The shallow ‘v’ cross-section in the hull means that this kayak slices through choppy water rather than bobbing around on top of it.

In the advanced conditions of Anglesey’s the wild western tide races, the Venture Jura MV rose to the challenge! There is great acceleration and forward speed. This makes for great fun surfing the standing waves and ocean swell.

Scudder

The Venture Jura MV comes with the new under stern skeg / rudder. If you lower the system part way, it acts like a skeg giving improved trim and tracking in windy conditions. Lower it a little more and it becomes a rudder controlled by the ‘Smart Track’ rudder pedals that are built into the foot rests.

Conclusion

This is a great development boat for those who want to get into, and develop their sea touring adventures. There is plenty of space in the three compartments for food, camping kit and supplies. The Venture Jura MV is not only for beginners.
